Alec Ash is editor of China Books Review and a writer focused on China, where he lived from 2008-2022. He is the author of Wish Lanterns, about the lives of young Chinese, and The Mountains Are High. His articles have appeared in The New York Review of Books, The Atlantic, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and elsewhere. He formerly edited the China Channel at the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Alexander Boyd is Associate Editor of China Books Review. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guizhou, China, from 2018-20, and was a contributor to The China Project, Politico’s China Watcher newsletter, and the ChinaTalk podcast. He was previously Senior Editor at China Digital Times.

Mary Kay Magistad

Mary Kay Magistad is an award-winning former China correspondent for NPR (1995-99) and PRI/BBC's The World (2003-13), and creator of the critically acclaimed podcasts Whose Century Is It and On China's New Silk Road. She is currently deputy director of Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations, which co-produces the China Books Review with The Wire China.
